Fasting means not eating and drinking only water after 10 p.m. the night before.<\/p>\n<p>Not being sober mainly affects the determination of substances resorbed from the diet as such (glucose, triglycerides, etc.). Indirectly, lipemic samples (elevated triglycerides) can technically interfere with the determinations. A number of parameters (e.g., iron, phosphate, cortisol) also show fluctuations during the day.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"fusion-panel panel-default\"><div class=\"panel-heading\"><h4 class=\"panel-title toggle\"><a aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"40eb5eeb26c89c2b6\" role=\"button\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-parent=\"#accordion-8044-1\" data-target=\"#40eb5eeb26c89c2b6\" href=\"#40eb5eeb26c89c2b6\"><span class=\"fusion-toggle-icon-wrapper\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><i class=\"fa-fusion-box\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/i><\/span><span class=\"fusion-toggle-heading\">How should you prepare for a urinalysis?<\/span><\/a><\/h4><\/div><div id=\"40eb5eeb26c89c2b6\" class=\"panel-collapse collapse \"><div class=\"panel-body toggle-content fusion-clearfix\">\n<p>Depending on the type of study, <strong>midstream urine<\/strong> must be produced <strong>or first-voided urine<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<h3>Collection of <strong>midstream<\/strong> urine sample: for ordinary urinalysis<\/h3>\n<p>The examination requires the middle portion of the (best first morning) urine, called midstream urine.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>For women:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Beforehand, wash the pubic area with a washcloth with water:<\/li>\n<li><strong>Spread <\/strong>the labia and <strong>clean <\/strong>with water (no soap!) or with a damp cloth (always from front to back) and dry with toilet paper.<\/li>\n<li>Keep the labia spread when urinating.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><u>For men:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Pull the <strong>foreskin<\/strong> back and <strong>clean <\/strong>with water<strong>(no soap!<\/strong>) and dry with toilet paper.<\/li>\n<li>Hold the foreskin back when urinating<\/li>\n<li>First pee a little in the toilet and then collect some urine in a clean urine jar by holding it in the urinal.<\/li>\n<li>Then close the jar tightly with the lid.<\/li>\n<li>If necessary, write your <strong>name and date of birth<\/strong> on the jar and store it <strong>in the refrigerator<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Collection of<strong>&#8220;first void<\/strong>&#8221; urine sample (for STD testing):<\/h3>\n<p>First void urine means <strong>first discharged urine<\/strong> (first void = first 10 to max. 20 ml). Patients should not have urinated in the last two hours before collection (so preferably morning urine = first urine when getting up). <strong>Only the first 20 ml<\/strong> should be collected. The rest of the urine is further urinated out in the toilet.<\/p>\n<p>If first-void morning urine is not possible, urine may also be made on site provided no urination has occurred in the last 2 hours. The swab should be inserted into the entrance to the urethra after which it is rotated for at least 10 seconds. Place swab back into the tube.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Anal swab:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For anal complaints, an anal swab <u>itself<\/u> may also be taken.<\/p>\n<p>To do this, it is best to stand upright with one leg placed on a chair or the toilet. The anal swab should be inserted at least about four inches deep. It may help to hold the swab at that height above the tip so that your fingers touch the body if the swab was inserted deep enough. Use one hand to lift one buttock so that you have easy access to the anus. Now place the swab 4 cm into the anus. Move your fingers away from your body to get a better grip on the swab. Gently rotate the swab around for 30 seconds. The swab should be inserted at least 2.5 cm deep. It may help to hold the swab at that height above the tip so that your fingers touch the body if the swab was inserted deep enough. After inserting the wiper, it should be swirled around for at least 15 to 30 seconds.
