Er bestaan ongeveer 50 PEth-fosfolipidehomologen met variabele lengte en verzadiging. Het heeft een halfwaardetijd (de tijd die nodig is om de helft van een bepaalde stof om af te breken) van 4-10 dagen, maar kent een grote variatie tussen verschillenden individuen.<\/p>\n<p>Na 1 alcoholconsumptie kan PEth 1 \u00e0 2u later al gedetecteerd worden. Hier zijn enkele redenen waarom PEth vaak de voorkeur krijgt boven CDT:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Gevoeliger voor kortdurend en matig alcoholgebruik<\/strong>: PEth kan zelfs na een enkele alcoholinname worden gedetecteerd, terwijl CDT pas verhoogd zal zijn bij langdurig en zwaar alcoholgebruik (&gt;50-80 g\/dag gedurende 1-2 weken).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Langere detectieperiode<\/strong>: Terwijl CDT normaliseert na 2-3 weken onthouding, heeft PEth een langere halfwaardetijd en kan het gedurende een langere periode de geheelonthouding van alcohol aantonen (gemiddeld 1 maand).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Minder be\u00efnvloed door andere factoren:<\/strong> CDT is geen goede merker voor personen met een leveraandoening of bepaalde genetische transferrinevarianten. PEth wordt hierdoor minder be\u00efnvloed.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Objectieve meting<\/strong>: PEth-tests bieden een objectieve meting van daadwerkelijk alcoholgebruik, terwijl CDT-tests \u201cvals negatieve\u201d resultaten kunnen geven. Een \u2018normale\u2019 CDT is niet bewijzend voor abstinentie of afwezigheid van problematisch alcoholgebruik.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Betere correlatie met alcoholinname<\/strong>: PEth heeft een directe relatie met de hoeveelheid ingenomen alcohol, waardoor het een betrouwbaardere indicator is van daadwerkelijk alcoholgebruik.
