Project Description
PEth test
As part of a driving test, do you wish to demonstrate that you no longer drink?
Do you need to undergo an evaluation as part of a conditional driving ban or for insurance institutions?
Persons wishing to request a review or lifting of driving bans (Article 44 Road Traffic Act) must add the necessary supporting documents to their file. In case of (problematic) alcohol use or alcohol addiction, repeated consecutive results of specialized blood tests, such as Phosphatidylethanol – PEth for short, play an important role.
The PEth marker is used to check which type of alcohol user you belong to at the time of the blood draw: total abstainer to limited alcohol user, alcohol user or chronic excessive alcohol user.
The test is done on blood, you do not need to be sober for this and the full result is known within 8 working days.
Demonstrate your alcohol abstinence based on (repeated) PEth test
Have to undergo medical evaluation in driving?
Demonstrate in court that you no longer drink?
We provide you with a reliable report that you can add to your file in support of your total abstinence over an extended period of time

How do I prepare?
You do not need to make any additional preparation. You do not need to be sober for this blood draw.
Following parameters are determined at the panel alcohol use comprehensive:
PEth ((Phosphatidylethanol)
Alcohol
More info on these parameters:
PEth is a direct and specific alcohol marker. This means that PEth is present in the blood only when there has been use of alcohol.
After 1 alcohol consumption, PEth is detectable 1 to 2h later.
PEth provides an indication of your alcohol consumption during the past month.
By determining PEth in blood (and at different consecutive times), a person can prove that he or she has not consumed alcohol for an entire period.
The dosage of alcohol in your blood (promille) is also determined in this panel.
Alcohol in blood is detectable on average only 10-12 hours after ingestion.
