Project Description
ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION
More than half of men between 45 and 75 face occasional to regular erectile dysfunction. There are many causes of erectile dysfunction. Fortunately, we also have more and more options for treatment. To choose the right treatment or support, it is important to know where the problem is.
Through this panel, a number of common causes of erectile dysfunction are examined such as atherosclerosis, diabetes, disorders of sugar levels, nutritional deficiencies and disruption of key sex hormones.
You must be sober for the determination of your fasting sugar level. This is very important for the correct diagnosis of (incipient) diabetes.
You will receive a report with the test results within a week of collection.
This report will include an interpretation by a laboratory expert, with recommendations for further management.
It is appropriate to have an annual check-up performed
Checking for common causes:
Arteriosclerosis
Diabetes
Hormonal disorders
Disorder of prostate
Nutritional deficiencies

How do I prepare?
The optimal time for blood collection is inthe morning after bed rest and overnight fasting. Fasting means not eating and drinking only water after 10 p.m. the night before.
Not being sober mainly affects the determination of substances resorbed from the diet as such (glucose, triglycerides, etc.). Indirectly, lipemic samples (elevated triglycerides) can technically interfere with the determinations. A number of parameters (e.g., iron, phosphate, cortisol) also show fluctuations during the day.
Through this panel, 16 key parameters are measured:
Total cholesterol
HDL cholesterol
LDL cholesterol
non-HDL cholesterol
triglycerides
testosterone
free testosterone
bioavailable testosterone
prolactin
Sex Hormone Binding Globulin (SHBG)
PSA
free PSA
glucose (sober)
HbA1c
25OH vitamin D
This information helps determine the cause of erectile dysfunction, such as:
reduced blood supply to the penis, e.g., due to arteriosclerosis. The analysis of HDL cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, ratio HDL/Tot. Cholesterol, non-HDL cholesterol, triglycerides gives a good picture of your risk for arteriosclerosis, and can show if treatment is needed.
impaired perfusion of the penis, e.g. due to nerve damage in diabetes. Measurement of glucose and HbA1c investigates this.
decreased perception of lust (libido) due to hormonal disorders. These are examined in a comprehensive panel (testosterone, free testosterone, bioavailable testosterone, prolactin, SHBG)
diseases of the prostate, examined with PSA and free PSA
nutritional deficiencies (25OH vitamin D)
Limitations of this test panel.
Not all causes of erectile dysfunction can be examined with a blood test, e.g.:
psychological stress in relationships or at work
cancer treatment
operations on the bowel, small pelvis or prostate
