The result will be available from your doctor the same day.

You can easily come to us for this test if you have a prescription through your family doctor or gynecologist.
This can also be done through the midwife, if in agreement with your family doctor or gynecologist.

Several blood draws required in the comprehensive sugar test

In case of an elevated (short) challenge test, an OGGT (oral glucose tolerance test) must be performed. This does require you to be sober and a blood draw is scheduled at 3 or 4 times, depending on your doctor’s prescription.

The first blood draw is always a fasting blood draw. The second blood sample is taken exactly 1 hour after drinking the sugar solution, the third and possibly the fourth (depending on the doctor’s prescription) after drinking the sugar solution for 2 and 3 hours, respectively. Between blood draws, you may only drink water and must remain on site and keep quiet.

The sugar solution is available in our lancing center, so you do not need to bring it yourself.

Result

The result is available the same day and is automatically added to your doctor’s electronic patient record as with all other lab results. Afterwards, everything can be discussed with your family doctor, gynecologist or midwife.

Note: If a prescription through the midwife, please state very clearly at the time of blood draw which physician should receive a copy of the result.

Analysis

Once a diagnosis of gestational diabetes has been made, it is best to discuss with your family doctor and gynecologist what treatment is best for you, and they will certainly give you individual advice.
