Project Description

GLUTEN INTOLERANCE
OR CELIAC DISEASE

€ 121

If hypersensitivity to gluten is suspected, this blood test can be conclusive. This test consists of 3 different analyses which, if abnormal, may indicate an intolerance to gluten.
This test determines the presence of antibodies to gluten in the blood.

The test is done on blood. You do not have to be sober for this.
It is very important that you continue to eat gluten as usual in the 2 weeks prior to the test. If you avoid gluten, the tests can go back to normal and we may miss the diagnosis.

Usually the result of this test is known within 5 days.

How do I prepare?

The optimal time for blood collection is inthe morning after bed rest and overnight fasting. Fasting means not eating and drinking only water after 10 p.m. the night before.

Not being sober mainly affects the determination of substances resorbed from the diet as such (glucose, triglycerides, etc.). Indirectly, lipemic samples (elevated triglycerides) can technically interfere with the determinations. A number of parameters (e.g., iron, phosphate, cortisol) also show fluctuations during the day.

Gluten intolerance, also called celiac disease, is an autoimmune disease.

This is a condition in which the small intestine is damaged by eating foods containing gluten. Gluten (gliadins) are proteins present in wheat, rye, barley, spelt, kamut and in all products based on these grains. Buckwheat and oats are naturally gluten-free. Nevertheless, they are prohibited within the gluten-free diet because there is always a chance of cross-contamination. Only oats and buckwheat bearing the gluten-free logo are allowed.

Different types of complaints

The symptoms that develop in celiac disease vary from person to person and are mainly due to the reaction to gluten and the associated damage to the lining of the intestine. Some people have hardly any symptoms at all. The most common symptoms are chronic diarrhea, constipation, highly variable stools, abdominal pain, bloating and flatulence. Misunderstood gluten intolerance can also eventually result in severe anemia with the accompanying symptoms of fatigue and lethargy. With gluten intolerance, nutrients are not absorbed as well, increasing the risk of deficiencies of essential nutrients over time. Sometimes, therefore, depression, osteoporosis, delayed puberty, fatigue, reduced growth, emaciation also occur.

We offer a gluten intolerance test.

If hypersensitivity to gluten is suspected, this blood test can be conclusive. This test consists of 3 different analyses which, if abnormal, may indicate an intolerance to gluten. This test determines the presence of antibodies to gluten in the blood.

The various analyses determined in this panel are:

  • anti-tissue Transglutaminase IgA

  • Deaminated Gliadin IgG

  • IgA total

All tests are conducted in collaboration with doctors and specialists from AZ Delta.
