Project Description

HAIR LOSS

€ 158

Through the Hair Loss Test Panel, we explore common and treatable causes of abnormal and treatable hair loss: this includes minerals (iron, zinc), vitamins (B12), thyroid function (TSH) and a broad analysis of possible causes of androgenetic alopecia.

This blood analysis is best done in the morning (between 8-10 am). You do not necessarily have to be sober.
It is best to indicate whether or not you take vitamin or dietary supplements (and which ones).
You will receive the full report within 10 days.

How do I prepare?

The optimal time for blood collection is inthe morning after bed rest and overnight fasting. Fasting means not eating and drinking only water after 10 p.m. the night before.

Not being sober mainly affects the determination of substances resorbed from the diet as such (glucose, triglycerides, etc.). Indirectly, lipemic samples (elevated triglycerides) can technically interfere with the determinations. A number of parameters (e.g., iron, phosphate, cortisol) also show fluctuations during the day.

The various analyses determined in the hair loss panel are:

  • Vitamin B12

  • Ferritin

  • Transferrin

  • CRP

  • Zinc

  • TSH

  • Sex Hormone Binding Globulin

  • Testosterone

  • Free testosterone

  • Bioavailable testosterone

Hair is produced from skin cells in the hair follicles or hair follicles. The number of hair follicles on the scalp fluctuates around 100,000. Hair growth is a cyclical process with a phase of growth (“anagenic phase”), transition (“catagenic phase”) and breakdown (“telogenic phase”). This process takes about 3 years. During the transition phase, the hair is gradually detached from the hair follicle to fall out during the breakdown phase. This phase takes about 3 months. On average, we lose about 100 hairs per day. The hair cycle is regular in humans, but can peak during the change of seasons in the months of August-September.

Hair loss, also known as alopecia, can have several causes. Stress, changes in hormone balance, nutritional deficiencies or certain medications, in addition to heredity, can lead to temporary or permanent hair loss.

There are different forms of hair loss:

  • Androgenetic alopecia: occurs under the influence of androgens, the male sex hormones. Occurs in both men and women (albeit to a lesser degree) and is hereditary.

  • Alopecia areata: the2nd most frequent form of hair loss. Characterized by one or more round to oval-shaped bald patches. Possibly heredity also plays a role here or this form is caused by an autoimmune disease against hair roots, an allergy or a stress factor.

  • Diffuse hair loss: here hair loss is spread throughout the scalp, but this rarely leads to complete baldness. Common causes are abnormal thyroid function and deficiencies in iron, vitamins or minerals.

  • Hair loss due to scarring of the skull skin.

  • A traumatic alopecia occurs because hairs are torn out.

All tests are conducted in collaboration with doctors and specialists from AZ Delta.
