Project Description
SPORTS AND PERFORMANCE
OVERTRAINING
€ 168
Are you a recreational or professional athlete and want to optimize your performance?
Do you train a lot but feel your performance is not increasing accordingly?
Healthy building of muscle mass and fitness requires the right balance of training, rest and balanced intake of building blocks.
Taking nutritional supplements can help but it’s best not to navigate blindly.
Through this comprehensive test panel, you can easily monitor whether you are doing well and where adjustments are needed. We also examine if your body is responding well to the training load and if no signs of overtraining and muscle damage are developing.
How do I prepare?
The optimal time for blood collection is inthe morning after bed rest and overnight fasting. Fasting means not eating and drinking only water after 10 p.m. the night before.
Not being sober mainly affects the determination of substances resorbed from the diet as such (glucose, triglycerides, etc.). Indirectly, lipemic samples (elevated triglycerides) can technically interfere with the determinations. A number of parameters (e.g., iron, phosphate, cortisol) also show fluctuations during the day.
Depending on the type of study, midstream urine must be produced or first-voided urine:
Collection of midstream urine sample: for ordinary urinalysis
The examination requires the middle portion of the (best first morning) urine, called midstream urine.
For women:
- Beforehand, wash the pubic area with a washcloth with water:
- Spread the labia and clean with water (no soap!) or with a damp cloth (always from front to back) and dry with toilet paper.
- Keep the labia spread when urinating.
For men:
- Pull the foreskin back and clean with water(no soap!) and dry with toilet paper.
- Hold the foreskin back when urinating
- First pee a little in the toilet and then collect some urine in a clean urine jar by holding it in the urinal.
- Then close the jar tightly with the lid.
- If necessary, write your name and date of birth on the jar and store it in the refrigerator.
Collection of“first void” urine sample (for STD testing):
First void urine means first discharged urine (first void = first 10 to max. 20 ml). Patients should not have urinated in the last two hours before collection (so preferably morning urine = first urine when getting up). Only the first 20 ml should be collected. The rest of the urine is further urinated out in the toilet.
If first-void morning urine is not possible, urine may also be made on site provided no urination has occurred in the last 2 hours. This first-void urine (only the first 20 ml of the urine stream; rest back out in toilet) should be collected in a sterile urine container.
The Sports and Performance panel provides a broad screening of very diverse parameters.
Overview of measured parameters:
Hemoglobin
MCV, MCH, MCHC
Red blood cells
Hematocrit
White blood cells (WBC).
thrombocytes
WBC formula
TSH
HbA1c
Albumin
Total cholesterol
HDL cholesterol
LDL cholesterol
triglycerides
ALT
AST
creatinine
eGFR
CRP
Sodium
Potassium
Calcium
Phosphorus
Ferritin
CK
LDH
Urine screening (stick) + sediment
The panel includes a comprehensive blood test with measurement of red and white blood cells. This allows you to monitor your hematocrit (high-training, low-pressure booth) and screen for anemia and indirectly for vitamin deficiencies (folic acid, vitamin B12). The white blood cells combined with the CRP test are good indicators of infection, inflammation and tissue damage.
The general health of the liver is investigated through the clearance of liver enzymes AST, ALT and the production of the albumin protein. A lot of attention is paid to healthy kidney function, because kidneys have to deal with a lot of stress during intense training work and dehydration: we examine the filtering function of the kidney via creatinine/eGFR and check for abnormal amounts of protein, sugar or blood in the urine. Iron is essential for the formation of red blood cells, but excess iron (measured via ferritin), in turn, is very harmful to liver, heart, sugar metabolism and sexual performance.
Furthermore, we check the amount of important salts (Sodium, Potassium, Calcium and Phosphate) that can get sent with dehydration or excessive exertion, and your cholesterol.
We also measure the release of two important muscle enzymes (CK, LDH), which are released into the blood in excess during muscle breakdown due to overtraining or insufficient rest. Diabetes is an increasing problem, especially in older people. In turn, people with diabetes see health benefits from exercising.
We screen for disturbed blood sugar levels via determination of glycosylated hemoglobin (glycosylated hemoglobin HbA1c). Finally, we measure the hormone TSH as a screening for abnormal thyroid function, since thyroid hormones largely determine the body’s energy levels.
So by regular determination of this broad test panel, you can resume workouts with confidence!
All tests are conducted in collaboration with physicians and specialists at AZ Delta.
