OVERVIEW

€ 85

Obesity is a risk factor for the development of diabetes and cardiovascular disease. BMI is an interesting way to estimate the risk of such conditions at the population level, but it does not say enough about your individual risk.

Through this panel, you can find out if you are among the overweight people at increased risk for diabetes and cardiovascular problems.

You must be sober for the blood draw.

How do I prepare?

The optimal time for blood collection is inthe morning after bed rest and overnight fasting. Fasting means not eating and drinking only water after 10 p.m. the night before.

Not being sober mainly affects the determination of substances resorbed from the diet as such (glucose, triglycerides, etc.). Indirectly, lipemic samples (elevated triglycerides) can technically interfere with the determinations. A number of parameters (e.g., iron, phosphate, cortisol) also show fluctuations during the day.

Obesity is an excess of the body’s normal fat content.

The measure taken is the internationally used Body Mass Index (BMI), calculated by dividing weight (in kilograms) by the square of height (in meters). A BMI between 25 and 30 means overweight. We speak of being overweight or obese when a BMI exceeds 30. Obesity is a risk factor for the development of diabetes and cardiovascular disease. BMI is an interesting way to estimate the risk of such conditions at the population level, but it does not say enough about your individual risk. Indeed, BMI should always be interpreted according to your fat distribution, physique and musculoskeletal mass.

Through this panel, you can find out if you are among the overweight people at increased risk for diabetes and cardiovascular problems.

Comprehensive analysis of all major fats in the blood.

The panel, of course, includes a comprehensive analysis of all the important fats in the blood. In addition to good (HDL) and bad (LDL) cholesterol, their ratio and the amount of triglycerides also play an important role.

Being overweight can also cause disturbed sugar levels.

More and more people are thus developing type 2 diabetes, in which the body develops a deficiency of the insulin hormone. This progresses very slowly and is easily treatable early on through healthy diet, adequate exercise and medication. Tackling it in time is the message because misunderstood diabetes damages your kidneys, eyes, nerves and blood vessels.

Through this test panel, we examine your fasting sugar level. This is usually a good and simple indicator of diabetes. In addition, we also measure the amount of glycosylated hemoglobin: the glycosylated hemoglobin HbA1c is, as it were, the memory of your sugar levels. If it is elevated, it indicates excessive sugar levels in the months preceding the blood draw, even if your blood sugar levels were normal at the time of the draw.

Finally, we also measure the C-peptide: too low C-peptide indicates impaired function of the insulin-producing cells, too much in turn indicates impaired action of the insulin hormone (insulin resistance) due to fat accumulation in the tissues.

Thyroid check-up

Finally, we also check whether your thyroid gland is still working adequately (TSH, T4). A poorly functioning thyroid causes obesity, hair loss and lethargy, making it an easily treatable cause of many problems.

The following parameters are measured in this panel:

  • Total cholesterol

  • HDL cholesterol

  • LDL cholesterol

  • ratio HDL/Tot. Cholesterol

  • non-HDL cholesterol

  • triglycerides

  • glucose (sober)

  • HbA1C

  • C-peptide

  • TSH

  • FT4

All tests are conducted in collaboration with doctors and specialists from AZ Delta.
